| About Sigma Phi Epsilon Sigma Phi Epsilon is the nation's largest fraternity. For the last twenty years, more men have joined Sigma Phi Epsilon than any other college fraternity. Sigma Phi Epsilon was founded at Richmond College, now the University of Richmond, on November 1, 1901, on the Cardinal Principles: Virtue, Diligence, and Brotherly Love. Today, the Fraternity has grown to more than 255,000 lifetime members, including 14,000 undergraduates on 260 campuses in the United States. SigEp is the largest fraternity. The California Rho chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon was founded at UCSD in November of 1986. We received our national charter as Sigma Phi Epsilon on February 6, 1988, where it continues to be a prominent force on campus. Since its founding, our chapter has won numerous awards, including the UCSD Interfraternity Council Chapter of the Year Award four times and the prestigious Buchanan Cup Award for chapter excellence through the national Fraternity twice. The new millennium will prove to be pivotal as the fraternity system continues to be examined at every level by academic administrators, professors, parents, and the media. Sigma Phi Epsilon will promote leadership, academicexcellence, and brotherhood through programs like the resident scholar program and the Balanced Man Scholarship. Sigma Phi Epsilon will continue to seek to create partnerships with university administrations. The Balanced Man Program is hailed as the model for membership development in the Greek community, and Sigma Phi Epsilon's strategic plan is envied by many for its foresight in the ideals of Sound Mind, Sound Body. Through self-evaluation and unbending commitment by the National Board of Directors to hold the chapters accountable to Fraternity standards, Sigma Phi Epsilon will continue to be the nation’s leading fraternity. Our mission statement is “Building Balanced Leaders for the World’s Communities.” Sigma Phi Epsilon is proud of its heritage as a pioneer with its members, its chapters, and the Greek community. This pride and commitment will continue to blaze the way through the Fraternity's second century.
